Building collapses, including at least one in the Sydney office building where an office worker died, due to a fire caused by the building’s electrical fault article A building in the city of Sydney collapsed, leaving a woman dead and an elderly man injured, officials said Sunday, as they continue to investigate the cause of the building collapse.
Firefighters responded to the building in Bondi Beach at about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and extinguished the blaze, which occurred in the basement of the complex, said a statement from the Sydney Fire Brigade.
The fire was reported shortly before 7 p.c. on a building on the first floor, which was evacuated and reopened to the public.
A building inspection will be conducted by the city’s building and environmental health department and an investigation will be carried out, the statement said.
The building, which has two floors, was a converted warehouse and was the site of the office of the city council.
The cause of a fire at the Sydney building is still under investigation.
